A Different Sort Of "Rest"

Don't be afraid to take a rest day from your GPS watch/phone. Go take a run and try to avoid any thoughts to pace or mileage. Instead of worrying about your splits, just appreciate the beauty of nature, and the freedom of running unfettered.

And take a rest day from your mp3 player. Take in all of the sounds around you. Actually greet fellow runners when you see them.

This past week has been a trying one for the running community. We saw that we were not immune to the actions of a deranged few. And we saw just how big the running community is, with impromptu tributes to Boston organized all over the country, in addition to the "Runners for Boston" runs coming up on Monday at 6:30.

So get out there and enjoy some fresh air. Smile at strangers who love running as much as you do. Reflect on what exactly running means to you. This weekend in the Triad should be perfect for running, don't get so caught up in your workout that you miss out on the simple joy of running on a Spring day.
